Zmartec Intelligent Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. was established in August 2015 and is located in China (Shenzhen). In July 2023, it was renamed Zmartec Energy (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. focusing on providing support for the development of sodium and lithium batteries, and creating an integrated sodium battery full-chain ecosystem covering R&D, materials, battery cells, PACK, and systems, striving to become a leading comprehensive solution provider in the new energy industry. It is a high-tech enterprise engaged in the development of positive and negative electrode materials for sodium and lithium, as well as research on sodium and lithium batteries. Its products are applied in household energy storage, industrial and commercial energy storage, energy storage batteries for new energy vehicles, charging equipment, BMS, waste battery secondary recycling and treatment, and the production of high-end battery materials, etc.
The core team of the company has over 10 years of experience in sodium battery research and development. The research institute currently has 12 doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, focusing on the development of sodium and lithium battery material systems and the verification and iteration of new products, aiming to create sodium-ion battery products with low cost, long lifespan, high safety, high energy density, and high rate performance.
The pilot line, materials and cell research center for sodium and lithium batteries is located in Guangzhou High-tech Zone. Its total area exceeds 10,000 square meters. The cylindrical battery in Yancheng has already entered mass production and batch shipment, and the 5,000-ton material base has also entered mass production.
Project Core
Focusing on the application of sodium and lithium battery technologies in passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles, the aim is to meet the growing demand in the new energy vehicle market by developing high-performance, safe, reliable and cost-controllable battery products. With its independently developed advanced battery materials and unique battery system design processes, the company's products have significant advantages in key indicators such as energy density, cycle life, safety and cost, and can effectively solve many problems currently faced by new energy vehicle batteries.
Compared with lithium-ion batteries, the most significant feature of sodium-ion batteries is:
① Sodium resources are abundant. The global sodium content is 2.75%, which is much higher than that of lithium (0.0065%).
② Low cost. The raw materials for the electrodes and the current collectors (aluminum can be used for both positive and negative electrodes) of sodium-ion batteries have low costs, resulting in a theoretical manufacturing cost of 0.55 yuan/Wh for sodium-ion batteries. With the expansion of production capacity and the improvement of processes, the cost of battery cells is expected to drop to 0.2-0.3 yuan/Wh, which is much lower than the manufacturing costs of lithium-ion batteries, high-temperature sodium-sulfur batteries, and all-vanadium liquid flow batteries.
③ Excellent safety. Compared with lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries have higher safety during charging and discharging processes, and maintain high performance in terms of temperature resistance at both high and low temperatures. Even when used at -20℃, they still retain 90% of their capacity.
The technologies and manufacturing processes of sodium-ion batteries are similar to those of lithium-ion batteries. They can well draw on the current manufacturing techniques of lithium-ion batteries. They have a relatively high capacity (slightly lower than that of lithium iron phosphate batteries). Sodium resources are abundant, making this battery technology highly promising in terms of development potential and market value in the future.
Today's sodium-ion batteries can not only be used for large-scale energy storage applications, but also for five-seat electric vehicles with a driving range of 257 to 451 kilometers. From this perspective, sodium-ion battery technology will greatly alleviate the current problems of range anxiety and raw material shortage that are prevalent in lithium-ion batteries. The current technical level of sodium-ion batteries and their impact on the driving range of electric vehicles.
Development Vision
Zmartec Energy (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. aspires to become a leading enterprise in the global field of new energy batteries. Through continuous innovation and technological upgrading, it aims to widely apply sodium and lithium solid-state battery technologies in passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles, contributing to the sustainable development of the global new energy automotive industry and making contributions to the realization of the beautiful vision of green and low-carbon travel. In the next 5 to 10 years, the company plans to establish multiple production bases and R&D centers worldwide, expand its market share, enhance its brand influence, and become a benchmark enterprise in the new energy automotive battery industry.
